To improve interconnectivity of articles without lengthy "red link" rewriting... If there is a commonly used name or term that comes in various permutations, it can be redirected. i.e. John Crichton, John, Crichton, Commander Crichton, now all link to Crichton, Jr., Commander John Robert.
This is achieved without complete "in article" editing by linking to the red link and typing
