Douglas "D.K." Knox was John Crichton's best friend since sometime in his childhood. In high school, John helped him cheat on his SATs.[1] Both would later work for the International Aeronautics and Space Administration, where John worked as an astronaut and DK as a fellow scientist. Together, they developed a theory involving planetary gravity as a boost for manned space flight which became the basis for the for the Farscape Project. In it, a spaceship would use a planet's gravity as a slingshot, thus increasing its speed. Though Crichton proved this theory using his Farscape-1 module, he was sucked through a wormhole during the experiment and lost contact with DK and Earth entirely. [2]

In one instance during Crichton's time in the Uncharted Territories, John withstood a Scarran mind probe in which he encountered a simulation of DK. Though this avatar started normally, it began acting irrational as the simulation became more surreal in an effort to break John's mind. [3]

John did not see the real DK again for over three years, when he returned to Earth with Moya in late 2003. The childhood friends were again reunited and DK was part of the scientific team tasked to study the advanced alien technology Crichton had brought back. Unfortunately, during this visit home, Moya was carrying a creature called a Skreeth, which had followed Crichton at Commandant Grayza's orders. The Skreeth went to Earth's surface and assassinated DK and his newly wed wife, Laura. Later, Ka D'Argo, John, and Aeryn Sun all made a collective effort to kill the Skreeth, unknowingly avenging DK's murder.[4]

Quotes[]

  • See our latest press? "Childhood friends out to prove a theory! Can a manned spacecraft overcome atmospheric friction and exponentially increase its speed using only a planets natural gravitational pull?"
  • (Scarran Scenario DK): OH! LEAVING SO SOON? I WISH I COULD! LOOK AT WHAT YOU MADE ME DO JOHN! I OPENED MY VEINS! YOU MADE ME LOSE MY JOB! YOU DUMPED ME FOR YOUR NEW PALS! SOME FRIEND YOU ARE! SOME FRIEND YOU ARE MAN! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
  • If we're never going to learn anything - why rub our noses in how dumb we are?
