When we first meet Jenavian Charto she appears to be a shallow, social climbing, power grabbing snob as she has "fianced" herself to Prince Clavor of the Royal Planet who may possibly become its next ruler. Jenavian reveals her ambitions when she tells Clavor if he is not going to be king she won't marry him.
When we meet Jenavian again at the beginning of the second part of the "Princess" trilogy we find out she is actually a martially trained ninja-like Disruptor from the Peacekeeper Special Directorate. She has just saved John's eema by killing the would-be Crichton assassins sent by Prince Clavor. Jenavian thinks John was sent by Peacekeeper Special Directorate as a backup for her mission. John plays along with her. but neither denies nor confirms her suspicions. Jenavian reveals that her mission is to stay close to Prince Clavor and kill him if he ascends to the Royal Planet throne.
John marries Princess Katralla, thereby ruining Prince Clavor's chance to rule, and along with Katralla is turned into a statue. When John's head is cut off by the Scarran Emissary Cargn, to once again try to put Clavor on the throne, and thrown into an acid bath, Scorpius rescues John's head but is suddenly assaulted by an unseen Jenavian. Jenavian reattaches John's head and reanimates him. Together they escape the palace to an undisclosed location in the woods. While John and Jenavian hide out in the woods they have an intimate tryst.
Jenavian and John return to the palace the next day to straighten things out and Jenavian proposes to John that they more or less become a couple. John declines and Jenavian blithely shrugs off the rejection and goes to the palace morgue to pretend to mourn for the slain Clavor. A few moments later John joins her in the morgue, tells her he's sorry about Clavor but that he deserved it, she slaps him hard across the face (maybe she felt more rejected by John than she let on). Jenavian runs out of the morgue sobbing and she is never heard from again.
